Granite Curling Club
2026 Scott St. Ottawa, ON

Partners and Location
Our group was invited to work with the Granite Curling Club in Westboro (Scott St), a large corrugated metal building next to Westboro transit station. The building was frequently vandalized, and on a street under construction. The whole area, a main road to a residential neighborhood. had an unsettling industrial feel. We also partnered with a local church, involving youth from their drop in program.
Youth Engagment
Artists met with youth at the church for a discussion and design session. Topics included graffiti as an art form and the impact of vandalism vs murals. Participants chose themes and images to represent local youth's interests. We incorporated historically significant and curling related themes picked by the curling club.
Mural
Spray priming was done by Tamco. The mural was painted on corrugated metal with four artists guiding redirected youth from our program. Other youth from the local high school attended an art session where they painted sections of the wall.
Upon completion, a celebratory barbecue was held at the club, including all participants.
